Writer's Workshop: Writing teaching books

Our kindergarteners have become quite the writers in the last month! We have been working on writing "teaching books" or books about something that we know a lot about. Many kids are writing about Ninja Turtles, Halloween or their families. Here we brainstormed some topics that writers can write about:




We learned that writers use pictures to tell their story, and they also add labels and words to their pictures so the reader knows what they are looking at. Here are some pictures of us practicing labels and writing stories:










Then we learned how to read back our stories to others, by pointing at the page and reading or explaining the story that is there. Here are some pictures of partners sharing their writing! Later in the year we will learn how much writers can learn from brainstorming and editing with their partners.
